Jules Perrault and Marie Consigny

Jules Perrault was the great-grandfather of Robert Perrault and the seventh child of Jean-Baptiste Perrault and Marie Charlotte Froment. He was born 25 Mar 1831 and baptized the next day at St-Paul, Joliette, Québec, Canada.1

On 7 Jul 1853, he married Marie Anne Consigny at the basilica of Notre-Dame de Montréal in Montréal. Marie was born 5 April 1835 in Montréal and baptized the next day at Notre-Dame de Montréal.2 She was the third child of François Consigny dit Sansfaçon and Marie Josèphe Venne who were married 5 Oct 1829 in Notre-Dame de Montréal.3 François was the son of Nicolas Consigny and Marie Catherine Hurtubise;4 Marie Josèphe was the daughter of Joseph Venne and Marie Anne Gauthier.5

Jules and Marie had fourteen children:

  1. Marie Jules Avila Perrault, born 18 May 1854 in Montréal;6 died 22 Jul 1860 in Montréal.7
  2. Marie Délia Perrault, born 24 Feb 1856 in Montréal;8 married Toussaint Ethier on 26 Oct 1875 in St-Cunegonde, Montréal;9 died 26 Mar 1932 in Montréal.10
  3. Marie Joseph Hormisdas Perrault, born 30 Oct 1857 in Montréal.11 died 21 May 1860 in Montréal.12
  4. Marie Joseph Ferdinand Perrault, born 30 Oct 1857 in Montréal;13 died 26 Mar 1858 in Montréal.14
  5. Marie Nazaire Perrault, born 9 Jul 1859 in Montréal;15 married Marie Philomène Demerise Simoneau on 8 Jul 1888 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts;16 married Marguerite Foubert on 6 Sep 1914;17 died 28 Oct 1937 in Montréal.18
  6. Marie Emmanuel Avila Perrault, born 23 May 1861 in Montréal;19 married Marie Cyrillia Cadoret on 1 Jul 1885 in Montréal;20 married Catherine Williams on 7 Jul 1917 in St-Patrick, Sherbrooke;21 died 1 Oct 1941 in Lennoxville, Sherbrooke.22
  7. Marie Joseph Emmanuel Perrault, born 10 Mar 1863 in Montréal;23 died 1 Mar 1890 in Montréal.24
  8. Marie Joseph Hormisdas Perrault, born 23 Apr 1865 in Montréal;25 married Marie Sylvestre in 1899 in unknown location in Quebec;26 died 15 Feb 1944 in Montréal.27
  9. Marie Joseph Julien Perrault, born 1 Jul 1867 in Montréal;28 married Marie Antoinette Herménégilde Audet dite Lapointe on 1 Jul 1889 in St-Jacques, Montréal.29
  10. Marie Émilie Tharsile Perrault, born 30 Dec 1868 in Montréal;30 married Louis Guillaume Payfer on 4 Jul 1893 in Ste-Brigide, Montréal;31 died 28 Mar 1897 in Montréal.32
  11. Marie Louise Perrault, born 4 May 1871;33 married Joseph Leduc on 18 Jul 1892 in Montréal;34 died 31 May 1966 in St-Jérôme, Terrebonne.35
  12. Marie Louise Albina Perrault, born 11 Oct 1873 in Montréal;36 died 5 Nov 1874 in Montréal.37
  13. Marie Malvina Perrault, born 25 Sep 1875 in Montréal;38 died after 6 Apr 1901.39
  14. Joseph Alfred Simon Perrault, born 14 Feb 1878 in Montréal;40 died 26 Jan 1880 in Montréal.41

At the age of 28, Jules Perrault was included in the 1861 East Canada Census for Montréal. Listed with him were his wife Marie (age 25) and two children, Delia (age 5) and Nazaire (age 2). Also included in his household were Marie Desautel (age 55) and Tharcile Desautel (age 19); their relationship to Jules and Marie was not indicated. Jules declared that he was a Boulanger (baker), that he was Catholic, that he lived in a 2-story wooden house, and that he owned 1 horse valued at 30 dollars. Both Jules and Marie could read and write.42

Jules Perrault - 1861 Canada Census
In the 1881 Canadian Census, Jules and Marie were included in the census for Ste-Cunegonde, Hochelaga, PQ. Living in their household were sons Nazaire (age 22), Ovilla (age 20), Emmanuel (age 18), Hormisdas (age 15), and Julien (age 14), and daughters Larcile (age 13), Marie L. (age 11), and Malvina (age 6). Jules’ occupation was baker.43

Jules and Marie Perrault were living in the Sainte-Marie Ward of Montréal Centre when the 1891 Canadian Census was taken. In their household were children Hormisdas (age 25), Marie L. (age 19), and Malvina (age 15). Jules was a baker.44

Jules (age 70) and Marie (age 65) were included in the 1901 Canadian Census for the Sainte-Marie Ward of Montréal with their daughter Maria M. (age 25). All could read and write French; only Marie Consigny Perrault could speak English.45

On 25 Oct 1904, Jules died at the age of 73 in Montréal and was buried two days later at Notre-Dame de Montréal.46 Marie died 5 Apr 1907 in Montréal at the age of 72 and was buried three days later at Notre-Dame de Montréal.47
